Our New Products Will be Certified Naturally Grown!

Sustainable Bioresources believes that organic farming methods are an important component of sustainable and regenerative agriculture.  We are committed to developing our new cultivars with all characteristics necessary for organic production and intend to produce most of our edible and medicinal plants and plant products following organic methods.  In the interests of maintaining transparency, we also wanted to provide a way for our future customers to confirm that we are meeting these commitments.

Growers in the U.S. that use organic growing methods may not be allowed to refer to their products as “organic” or even “non-certified organic” unless they are certified by a USDA sanctioned agency.  For small and new growers the costs, administrative processes and time required to obtain and retain USDA organic certification are often prohibitive.

Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) is a U.S. based farm assurance program certifying produce, apiaries and livestock for organic producers who sell locally and directly to their customers.  CNG was founded in 2002 by organic farmers in the mid-Hudson Valley, as a simpler to administer and less expensive alternative to the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) certification, using a production standard based on the NOP.  Quality assurance is maintained using a Participatory Guarantee System (PGS), a method supported by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM).  CNG is operated as a non-profit corporation headquartered in New York.  Because of our small size, direct marketing methods and need to expedite entry into test markets we felt that participation in the CNG program was the best alternative to the USDA program available to us.

We are very pleased to report that our company has just completed all requirements for participation in the CNG program.  Our Moringa seedlings currently offered, and all of our new Hoodia products to be introduced over the next several months will be produced following CNG requirements and carry the CNG logo.

Seed Mixtures Now Available from Our Moringa Seed Bank!

Previously, only lots of seed of specific varieties and geographic sources were available from our International Moringa Seed Bank.  Today, we began sales of mixtures of Indian Moringa seeds (Moringa oleifera) compiled from multiple sources within specific regions (Africa, Asia, North America, Caribbean and Hawaii, and a Worldwide mixture of seeds from all of these regions.  These seed mixtures will provide a much more economical way for growers to obtain a genetically and geographically diverse assortment of seeds than purchasing seeds from individual lots and sources.  A disadvantage of planting seeds from mixtures is that purchasers will be unable to identify and reorder more seeds of the best performing trees grown from the mixtures at their locations.  However, harvesting and replanting seeds from these trees may overcome this disadvantage.  Keep in mind that cross pollination is likely to occur among moringa varieties planted in the same area, and seedlings may have characteristics that differ from the seed producing tree.

More information about our new regional and international seed mixtures is available in our Seed Catalog.  Packets of the various regional and worldwide seed mixtures may be purchased from our Online Store.
