We Offer the World’s Largest Selection of Hoodia Plants and the Only Improved, Certified Organic Cultivars!

Our ongoing research and plant breeding activities have produced the only known improved cultivars of five species of Hoodia: Hoodia gordonii, H. juttae, H. ruschii and H.  parviflora and our unique Hoodia gordonii tetraploid cultivars.  These all have enhanced resistance to bacterial rot, are adapted to growing in artificial cultivation and meeting the rigorous production requirements for organic certification.

We offer mature hybrid hoodia plants of a size suitable for harvesting cuttings and seedlings for growing a supply of this medicinal plant at home. Growing space for producing these in our greenhouse is very limited, these larger plants are difficult to ship from Hawai`i and there is currently low demand for them. In 2023 we will phase out production of these and maintain a low inventory of these for research purposes.  Production of young and medium sized plants will continue and these are now available for sale.  Under good growing conditions the medium sized plants should be of harvestable size within one year.

Certifications.   All of the plants that we offer meet the organic standards of the national Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) program and they are the only certified organic hoodia plants available anywhere.

All of our hoodia plants are also nematode-free Certified Nursery Plants (CNP) grown in our Hawai`i Department of Agriculture (HDOA) Certified Nursery from seeds of our improved cultivars.  They carry the Hawai`i Seal of Quality, confirming that they are grown here and meet the additional quality requirements of the HDOA.

SHIPMENT OF HOODIA PLANTS

Domestic Shipping.  We can ship hoodia plants to all states except California.  All of the larger and mature specimens will be shipped bare root.  Seedlings and the medium sized plants may be shipped bare root or with artificial soil media.

International Shipping.  Please CONTACT US  first before placing any international orders for hoodia plants.  Our plants can be exported internationally to most countries but such shipments have become highly problematic.   Recent changes in postal regulations now prohibit international shipments of live plants to some countries. The costs of all services relating to processing, clearance, packaging and shipment of live plants to destinations outside the U.S. are rapidly increasing and have become prohibitive.  Long, unpredictable transportation delays are now routinely encountered.  These conditions have forced us to curtail most of these shipments.  On August 1, 2022 we stopped accepting international orders for all live plants except for Hoodia and Hoodiopsis species.

Since hoodia and of its hybrids are listed on Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES), all export shipments to international destinations must have a Phytosanitary Certificate issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Single Use Permit issued under the terms of our master FWS master file permit #PER0054775, Version I.  The USDA and FWS document fees of $61.00 and $10.00 respectively must be paid when the order is placed with us. We will then apply for the required export documents.

The logistics of obtaining the required documents, inspections and clearances for export shipments of CITES regulated plants and seeds from Hawai`i island are difficult and the process may take 2-3 months.  For these reasons we have established a minimum order of $200.00 for international shipments of Hoodia and Hoodiopsis plants.
