Psilotum nudum (Hawaiian Moa or Whisk Fern)

An unusual, threadlike fern indigenous to the Hawaiian islands and other tropical areas.  The Greek and Latin words in the scientific name mean “naked".  This one of only several species in the entire Plant Kingdom that have no vascular systems, leaves or roots.  The plants are easy to grow in tropical gardens or as a house plant in other areas.

Our plants are grown in sustainable cultivation at our site on the slopes of the Mauna Loa volcano on Hawai`i Island.  They are seldom available in commerce.

Non-certified specimens of this species have been offered for sale.  These must be inspected but the Hawai'i Department of Agriculture and cannot be shipped to the states of Arizona, Calfornia, Lousiana or Texas, or to international customers.

We are now able to offer the first limited quanties of certifed nursery plants for shipment to all states except California.

Certified and non-certified plants of this species will be shipped without soil and the rhizomes will be packed with moist paper in shipment.

More information about these is available in our website article.
