Hawaii Island: Discovery Harbour, District of Kau

These seed lots were from a small population of corn plants grown at our research nursery located in Discovery Harbour in the Kau District of Hawaii island at an elevation of about 275 meters (920 ft).

The seed producing plants for the 2024 lots were seedlings produced from germination testing of various seed lots from Mexican landraces, and F1 Hawaiian origin seeds of P1 Mexican plants.  These seeds are the products of open pollination under poor pollination conditions. All of the plants had arial roots typical of nitrogen-fixing corn, and some of these produced small amounts of mucus during protracted periods of wet weather.

Germination test data is not available for these seed lots.  Testing may be initiated before the next growing season in 2025.
