Camelina sativa (False Flax)

Camelina is excellent cover crop in areas with cold winters and its primary use is as an oil seed crop.  The oil is edible and of high quality.  It's also used in livestock feeds and supplements and as a biofuel.  In Hawai`i it is currently under development for use as a renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

We have recently began to acquire small amounts of camelina seeds, primarily for researchers and farmers interested in access to a diverse assortment seeds.

Our initial inventory of seeds will include only those of origins in the mainland states.  There are reportedly significant differences in the performance of the various varieties of seeds under Hawaiian growing conditions. We will be attempting to obtain samples of the best performing Hawaiian seeds for our seed bank and distribution.
