Data in this section is from our observations of plants in cultivation at the Moana Experimental Farm located at Hawaiian Ocean View, in the Kau District of Hawai`i island.

PLANT DATA

Plant Growth:

Rapidly growing variety.

Disease Resistance:

Canker Resistance Level: Low

Our outdoor plants became infected with what appeared to be stem canker disease in following the heavy rains associated with Hurricane Lala.  It spread very rapidly and all of the plants (rooted cuttings) died. See photo below. A single seedling growing in our greenhouse was unaffected.

Summary and Recommendations:

Very low canker resistance. Apparently cannot be grown outdoors in our area. Not recommended.
